  • Invented in 1964, but not released until 1981.
  • Essentially a record that played video.
  • Video quality on par with VHS, but the players were lower cost due to less complicated machinery.
  • Discs could only be played a finite number of times due to the disc physically wearing out.
  • Discontinued in 1986.
